YES, Practice improves a lot of things, practice can even improve your sewing skills…
Unless you have someone teaching you or you hired an instructor, it is important that you practice. Practice will improve your sewing skills if you you keep at it. It is OK if you mess up a stitch, you can always redo it.
Practice on an old pair of pants or start out with the 3 simple home sewing projects included on this site. Try a burp cloth project or a T-shirt quilt. A really super easy project to try is adjusting your curtain length.
Regardless of the project you choose, know that its OK to try and make a pillow first. As a matter of fact that should have been my first project, but I went for it and made a T-shirt quilt.
Don’t get discouraged, no one starts out making perfect seems, the fact that you are even starting is great!
As you gain confidence, move to harder projects or work on your clothes.
Take your time and even if you mess up or a seam is not exactly straight, trust me, not everyone will notice.
…Unless you point it out or they are closely inspecting your seam, they will not be able to tell if a seam is a little off or not straight.
Practice Will Improve Your Sewing Skills SURE, but here is a PRO TIP: Make sure you have an Iron and an Ironing board…
That’s right, this is a must when you’re sewing and is an essential tool you should have in your arsenal.
A good Ironing will help keep fabrics pressed and easier to work with when it’s time to sew.
Not to mention this will, keep your clothes pressed and sewing projects looking professional.
The point is, just try! Do something, anything, get started!
